“Technology.  Getting stuck in good when great makes it ten times better.

A lot of people get stuck in using one shopping cart or any of the systems that aren’t built for super marketers and they’ll get stuck there because it’s good and it works.

But without realizing that if they went to great, if they used M57 or Limelight, they would have 10 to 100 to 1,000 times the revenue.

Like why would you get stuck?  “Oh because Ultra Cart only costs $500.00 a month and the other one costs $5,000.00.”  So?  Who cares?

If you make $100,000.00, if you go from $10,000.00 to $100,000.00 and the cart costs you an extra $4,500.00, who cares?  It doesn’t matter to me, does it?

Does it matter to you?  So don’t get stuck in good when great is gonna make 10 or 100 X.  Follow me?

If you’re making $10,000.00 a month and you go to $100,000.00 a month, but the software costs you 10 times your -.  They’re not equal.

So my software costs me $500.00 and I’m making $10,000.00 and the other software costs me $5,000.00 instead of $500.00, even though it’s 10X on my costs, my 10X on my profits takes me from $10,000.00 to $100,000.00.

Easy to justify.  Now I got an additional $89,500.00 to play with because I spent $5,00.00.  No wait, $85,000.00 split, sorry.

Know what I’m thinking?  I’m thinking I’m hungry.

Okay, shopping cart lag, another huge killer.  Don’t allow your shopping cart system to just bog down.  Allowing techs to tell you, “Oh it’s fine over here.  We got no problems.  Don’t know what you’re talking about.”

No, never accept that.  Become a jerk.  If you hear that, “Now I think you really need to really research this.

You need to figure out what’s going on with my shopping cart or I think I’m gonna have to find another shopping cart where people are.”  No way should you ever hear “Its fine over here.”

I’m passionate about this because I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard that statement from techs and the next words out of my mouth are, “Oh, great, great.  So it’s working for you then, huh?  Okay, wonderful.

Well what about my customers?  I don’t care if it’s working for you.  I want you to figure out what’s going on and fix it.

When you come back to me and tell me what was broken and what you fixed, then I will consider this ticket closed and until then, the ticket remains open because I’m seeing issues on this place and this place and this place.

When those issues are gone, then the ticket’s closed.”  So don’t let anyone tell you its fine ‘cause then you lose.

You’re the only one who loses by not being combative with those people.

Affiliate tracking breaking.

If your affiliate breaks, you’re asking for a world of hurt.  You gotta pay for the affiliates.  You gotta pay for the sales. You gotta compensate your affiliates.

I mean it goes on and on and on.  Just don’t let your affiliate tracking break, please.

Not testing new variations of your process.

If you’re gonna put new variations of your process in, make sure that you test them thoroughly at multiple locations with real credit cards, not just your test transaction card, okay?

Having a server that cannot handle your traffic is another huge one.

DNS should be with a tolerant host if you’re gonna allow mailers to mail your offer.  Go Daddy is not a tolerant host.

Your server should be optimized so they can handle the load.  Reports need to run on separate servers so that you run a report it doesn’t stop your shopping cart completely and make it die.  That’s not good.

Someone needs to get tech’s alerts if your system goes down.  That’s just a must.  Someone needs to be notified by techs and at least four or five people, preferably in a chain.

If the problem is not resolved within ten minutes then it goes to this person.

If the problem’s not resolved in ten minutes then it goes to the next person, so on and so forth, until you’ve got everybody up at 3:00 in the morning freaking out that you’re not processing orders anymore because in this business at 3:00 in the morning, you’re still making money.

How much?  Well it depends on how much volume you got but it could be more than that guy makes in a whole week.

You want to make sure that you’ve got that system set up so that they know, “Look, you’re paid to make sure that this doesn’t break and if it breaks at 3:00 a.m.,

I’m not gonna stress about how much money I paid you all the rest of the time because you’re there for me at 3:00 a.m. when it breaks.  You understand that?  That’s your role.

Your role is to wake up at 3:00 in the morning, fix that damned server.

The rest of the time?  You could be playing Wii, you can be doing whatever the hell you want.  I pay you to sit on that server and make sure it runs 24 hours a day.”

You can use $20.00 tracking programs for $100,000.00 campaign if you like seeing things break.  I don’t recommend it.  Don’t use Ad Miner for $100,000.00 campaign.  Don’t use Hyper Tracker.

Get a real tracking system.

Use Link Trust or Hit Path or one of those other companies.  M57, just choose someone.

Also, believing that things aren’t possible, don’t let anyone tell you things are impossible.  Nothing is impossible.  Absolutely nothing is impossible.

And then trying to do all your tech on your own.  Don’t try and do your tech on your own.  Your job is a marketer.

If you’re watching this product, it’s because you’re a marketer because you understand that you’re good at something.  Let other people be good at the other stuff.

When you try to take ownership of too much it just kills you.  It kills your productivity, too.”
